Annual hydrant flushing to begin next week

The Frankfort Plant Board will begin its annual hydrant flushing on Monday, April 11, 2022. FPB Department of Water crews will service fire hydrants throughout Frankfort and Franklin County over the next few months. Flushing is necessary to maintain the integrity and quality of the distribution system and to ensure hydrants are functioning properly. This will also allow FPB to obtain fire-fighting flow information, which is shared with the city and county fire departments.

 

We ask that motorists please use caution in the flushing area due to possible water in the roadway. Some discoloration may occur in your tap water. This is normal. If discoloration persists after running your faucet for a short time, please call 352-4372.

 

Hydrant flushing areas for April 11 are:

  • Glenns Creek Rd. area

  • McCracken Road area

  • Steele Street area

Frankfort Plant Board Receives Honorable Mention for Outstanding Safety Practices

One hundred thirty-five utilities have earned the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2021. Frankfort Plant Board has achieved Honorable Mention in Group E of the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) 2021 Safety Awards of Excellence.

FPB And 317 other utilities from across the country entered the annual Safety Awards. Entrants were placed in categories according to their number of worker-hours and ranked based on the most incident-free records during 2021. A utility’s incidence rate, used to judge entries, is based on its number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses and the number of worker-hours during 2021, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

“In our industry, safety is the top priority,” said Bob Scudder, Chair of APPA’s Safety Committee and Industrial Hygiene and Corporate Risk Manager at Grand River Dam Authority. “This is a commitment that needs to come from the top down and permeate every aspect of operations. These awarded utilities have embraced this priority, and they deserve to be celebrated”

Boil Water Advisory Canceled / Donalynn Dr.

The Water Department of the Frankfort Plant Board is notifying you that the Division of Water of the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection has now canceled the Boil Water Advisory.

 

This Advisory was issued 3/2/22 due to a loss of pressure in the water main caused by plant board crews relocating an existing water main.

Wednesday  3/2/22, there will be an interruption of water service from 9:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. in the following areas:

Immediately following there will be a Boil Water Advisory.

 

 

A vigorous boil for at least two minutes is recommended. This Boil Water Advisory is a precautionary measure due to a loss of pressure in the water main caused by Plant Board crews relocating the existing water main.

 

 

This Advisory will remain in effect until lab analysis of water samples taken confirms that the potable water supply in the affected area is safe to drink. You will receive a notice when the advisory is lifted.

Sun outages may be affecting your TV service

Twice a year, you may experience some degree of television interference due to sun outages. These brief outages occur when the sun passes directly behind satellites transmitting cable signals. When the sun aligns with a satellite, solar radiation, energy the sun is emitting, interferes with the satellite’s signal and thus causes a brief signal outage.

Sun outages occur every year, in fall and spring, and last about a week each time. This spring, sun outages are expected from February 28th - March 7th, 2022. Lasting for approximately 8 to 10 minutes per channel, the approximate times for signal loss will be between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. 

During the sun outage, you may experience a pixelated picture, picture freezes, or audio distortions for a brief period.

Not all channels will experience this interference. Depending on the orbital plane of each satellite, times for this interference will vary as the sun crosses their arc.

Emergency Broadband Benefit Program is now the Affordable Connectivity Program

On Dec. 31, 2021, the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB) became the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a new long-term program created by Congress to provide a discount on internet service to those who are income-qualified. This Federal Communications Commission benefit program was established to help ensure that struggling households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare and more.

EBB recipients who were fully enrolled in the program as of Dec. 31, 2021 will automatically continue to receive the discount of up to $50 per month through Feb. 28, 2022, after which the new ACP program will offer discounts of up to $30 per month.

If current EBB participants qualify for the ACP, the EBB discount will transition to an ACP discount on March 1, 2022. Households that are eligible for the ACP will see their benefit change automatically to a maximum of $30 per month after that date.

Households have new ways to qualify. A household is eligible for the ACP if a member of the household meets at least one of the criteria below:

  • Has an income that is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines; or

  • Participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing Assistance, SSI, WIC, or Lifeline;

  • Participates in Tribal specific programs, such as Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, Tribal TANF, or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations;

  • Is approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision in the 2019-2020, 2020-2021, or 2021-2022 school year;

  • Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year; or

  • Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider’s existing low-income program.

Phone Scam Alert

We have received calls from customers stating they were contacted by someone claiming to be from FPB.  The call instructs the customers that they are needing to make a payment over the phone or be disconnected. The number appears like a local number.  

Please be advised this is a scam.  

If you receive a call like this, do not give any information to them and just end the call. If you believe that you do need to make a payment on your account, you can utilize the drop box at our main office, pay online through the customer portal or call 502-352-4372 and speak with an FPB customer service representative.
