The Frankfort Plant Board will begin its annual hydrant flushing on Monday April 10, 2023

The Frankfort Plant Board will begin its annual hydrant flushing on Monday April 10, 2023. Flushing is necessary to maintain the integrity and quality of the distribution system and to insure hydrants are functioning properly. This will also allow FPB to obtain firefighting flow information, which is shared with city and county fire departments.

We ask that motorist please use caution in the flushing area due to possible water in the roadway. Some discoloration may occur in your tap water; this is normal. If discoloration persists after running your faucet for a short time please call 352-4372.

We anticipate flushing to last 2-3 months. For daily updates please tune to 103.7 FM, 104.9 FM, 1490 AM, FPB Cable 10, our website www.fpb.cc, Facebook or twitter.

Significant temporary outage in west Frankfort set for 11 a.m. to make permanent repairs; crews continue efforts to restore service county wide

FPB customers in west Frankfort will experience a significant but temporary outage this morning in the Meadows subdivision area, Doctors and Kings Daughters Drives, Western Hills/Bondurant/Bridgeport schools, C Michael Davenport, Augusta and Heritage subdivisions, Cardwell Ln and the businesses along the west side of US127 from around Century Plaza down to I-64.

This temporary outage area includes south of US-60, north of I-64 and west of US-127.

This large temporary outage is expected to start around 11a.m. and once started, will last for approximately 4 hours. We apologize for this inconvenience but it will be necessary to make permanent repairs to areas damaged by the storm on Friday.

FPB crews continue to work around the clock to repair the extensive damage from the severe wind storm last Friday. We have approximately 800 customers that are still without electric service as of Sunday morning from the original 7,000 to 8,000 that were affected by the storm.

We also have a significant number of internet, phone and cable outages to these same areas, as well as large portions of northern and southern Franklin County due to the Kentucky Utility and Bluegrass Energy electrical outages in those respective areas.

FPB crews are being assisted today by crews from the municipal utilities of Berea, Paris and Barbourville and will continue working until all outages are repaired.

Update on widespread outage due to strong winds

FPB estimates that approximately 7,000 to 8,000 services were without power at some point yesterday. As of 11 a.m (3/4/2023) we still had approximately 2,500 services without power.

The majority of the the larger issues are related to trees bringing down power lines and utility poles. We expect to make some significant progress today. We know the Collins Lane/Coverdale/Thistleton/Leawood area has been hard hit, but we expect to have the majority of that area back on today.

There are still numerous reports of lines on the ground that we are responding to as soon as we can. If you encounter any lines on the ground or hanging low, please don't not touch them and keep a safe distance.

Report all issues to FPB at 502-352-4372 and we will get to it as soon as possible. All of the Frankfort Plant Board crews with assistance from some of our municipal utility neighbors are actively engaged 24 hours a day in restoration efforts.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we repair the extensive damage as quickly and as safely as possible.

Those who are experiencing a non-emergent medical need should call 502-875-8550.

FPB crews working continuously to restore power after severe weather

FPB crews are continuously working to restore power to all of our service areas. With this size event, restoration could take longer than expected. Multiple poles are down in our service area and crews are working as hard as they can to address the damage. It may be necessary to seek temporary shelter if you are without power for a length of time and rely on medical devices. A reminder that our priority is restoration of power first, then other nonessential services will follow. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work through the damage and restore power.

Damaging winds are often called “straight-line” winds to differentiate the damage they cause from tornado damage. Strong thunderstorm winds can come from a number of different processes. Damaging winds are classified as those exceeding 50-60 mph.

A few things to remember after a high wind event:

  • Avoid downed trees and do NOT go near downed power lines. Please report any down lines to FPB at 352-4372. Call times may be longer than normal.

  • Be careful when handling debris that may have blown into your yard.

  • If you need to use a portable generator, do not use it indoors even if the windows are open. Generators should be outside more than 20 feet away from your house as they produce carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide cannot be seen, heard, or smelled. Click here for more generator safety tips.
