Frankfort Plant Board Receives National Commendation for Electric Restoration Efforts in Mount Dora, Florida

[Frankfort, KY] — The Frankfort Plant Board has received a national commendation from the American Public Power Association for its support in electric power restoration efforts in Florida. This was in response to the destruction caused by Hurricane Milton.

On October 8, 2024, FPB sent seven employees, two bucket trucks, one digger truck, and one pickup truck to assist in Mount Dora, Florida, which suffered widespread outages.

The FPB crew restored power to more than 6,000 homes as they removed debris from lines and structures, replaced broken poles and equipment, and replaced both overhead and service conductors.

“Mutual aid agreements are important emergency management policies that rapidly make resources available during a disaster,” said FPB General Manager Gary Zheng. “It is our responsibility and an honor to help other communities in need when possible. This has been a rewarding experience for our crew, our company and this community. We should all be proud to be a part of it.”

FPB participates in the American Public Power Association’s Mutual Aid Network, which organizes mutual aid crews from 2,000 municipal utilities during widespread power outages.

Frankfort Plant Board to Discontinue Carriage of FanDuel Sports Ohio

Frankfort Plant Board today announced that it will not renew its agreement with FanDuel Sports Ohio (formerly Bally Sports Ohio) when the current contract expires on December 31, 2024. This decision comes after Diamond Sports Group, the owner of FanDuel Sports Ohio, recently emerged from a nearly two-year bankruptcy process and failed to secure broadcasting rights for Cincinnati Reds games for the 2025 season.

Starting January 1, 2025, Frankfort Plant Board customers will no longer have access to FanDuel Sports Ohio, which also means the discontinuation of Cleveland Cavaliers and Columbus Blue Jackets games in the FPB cable lineup. FPB is actively engaging with Major League Baseball to reach a mutually beneficial agreement to continue offering Cincinnati Reds games to its valued customers in Frankfort and the surrounding areas.

"We have valued our partnership with Diamond Sports Group over the years and are disappointed that they could not secure the rights to Cincinnati Reds games. However, we understand the importance of sports programming to our customers and are committed to providing access to high-quality content," said Harvey Couch, Telecommunications Product Manager at Frankfort Plant Board. "We look forward to working directly with Major League Baseball to ensure our customers can continue to enjoy Reds baseball on our platform."

The Cincinnati Reds are expected to be featured on a new MLB-operated channel called "Reds TV" starting with the 2025 season. Frankfort Plant Board is diligently working to include this channel in its lineup, pending a successful agreement with MLB.

Customers will not experience any immediate changes and will continue to have access to FanDuel Sports Ohio until December 31, 2024. More information about the new Reds TV channel and other potential sports programming will be shared as it becomes available.
