Drinking water safe after Jim Beam warehouse fire
/Frankfort Plant Board water staff has determined that the Kentucky River can still provide treatable water for drinking after a fire at a Jim Beam warehouse on McCracken Pike this morning near Frankfort. As a result of the fire-fighting efforts, some runoff entered Glenns Creek and ultimately the Kentucky River.
FPB water treatment operators are treating the water and advise that some customers with an acute sense of smell may temporarily detect a sweet or bourbon odor in the water. State and local officials continue to monitor the situation.
“Our priority every day is to ensure public safety and public health,” said FPB Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Julie Roney. “We routinely monitor and sample both the treatment plant and distribution system, with the goal to meet and exceed water standards and to protect our customers.”
