Short power outage planned downtown Wednesday morning

FRANKFORT – The Frankfort Plant Board Electric Department has scheduled a planned outage affecting parts of downtown this Wednesday morning, May 16 from 5 to 6 a.m. Power will be interrupted on the blocks between Broadway and Wapping St. and between Wilkinson Blvd. and Capital Ave.

FPB is finishing a project on Catfish Alley, which involves converting overhead feeder lines to underground lines. The power interruption is necessary to tie the new underground lines to the original feed.

FPB Hydrant Flushing Area Announced

Hydrant flushing is necessary to maintain the integrity and quality of the distribution system and to ensure hydrants are functioning properly. This will also allow FPB to obtain firefighting flow information, which is shared with city and county fire departments. 

We ask that motorist please use caution in the flushing area due to possible water in the roadway. Some discoloration may occur in your tap water. This is normal. If discoloration persists after running your faucet for a short time, please call 352-4372.

We will be flushing hydrants in the following areas on 5/16/18:

Lyons Dr.

Country Ln.

Brighton Park

Governor’s Place

West Broadway

Clinton St.

St. Clair

FPB tap water named Frankfort On Tap

Event at Water Treatment Plant kicked off National Drinking Water Week.

FRANKFORT – The Frankfort Plant Board officially named the tap water it treats and distributes Frankfort On Tap. FPB water officials, joined by Mayor Bill May, Department for Environmental Protection Commissioner Aaron Keatley, and FPB Board Chair Anna Marie Rosen, launched the water branding campaign Monday afternoon at the water treatment plant. The event was held in conjunction with the kick-off of National Drinking Water Week.

“We are proud of the quality of water provided by FPB’s water treatment plant,” said FPB Public Information Coordinator Cathy Lindsey. “So proud, in fact, that we have named it. We are excited to launch our Frankfort On Tap branding campaign to promote the value of our public-sourced tap water here in Frankfort and surrounding counties.”

FPB delivers on average about 4,000 gallons of fresh clean tap water (Frankfort On Tap) to each home for about a dollar a day. That equals about a half cent per gallon. In comparison, bottled water is more than 700 times more expensive than tap water.

By naming Frankfort On Tap, FPB is emphasizing the value and importance of safe and clean drinking water and pride that we live a community where it is locally treated and distributed. For more information, go to www.FrankfortOnTap.com.

FPB, the American Water Works Association and the water community across the country will celebrate Drinking Water Week (May 6-12, 2018) by recognizing the vital role drinking water plays in daily lives. This year’s theme is “Protect the Source.” Focus will be placed on ways in which water consumers can take personal responsibility in caring for their tap water and protecting it at its source.

Mayor May presented a proclamation declaring May 6-12 as National Drinking Water Week. The proclamation recognizes water as our most valuable natural resource and calls upon citizens to protect our water sources from pollution.

Boil Water Advisory Cancelled

The Water Department of the Frankfort Plant Board is notifying you that the Division of Water of the Kentucky Department forEnvironmental Protection has now cancelled the Boil Water Advisory.


This Advisory was issued 5/4/18 due to the loss of pressure in the water main caused by Plant Board crews repairing a water main break.

 

The area affected was:

• Capital Plaza Hotel, 405 Wilkinson Blvd

Water Service Interruption and Boil Water Advisory

Water service to the Capital Plaza Hotel has been temporarily interrupted in order to make repairs after a water main break. The Water Department of the Frankfort Plant Board advises to boil the water before drinking or using it for cooking. The advisory is in effect for the following area:

• 405 Wilkinson Blvd

A vigorous boil for at least two minutes is recommended. This Boil Water Advisory is a precautionary measure due to a loss of pressure in the water main causedby Plant Board crews repairing a water main break.

This Advisory will remain in effect until lab analysis of water samples taken confirms that the potable water supply in the effected area is safe to drink. You will receive a notice when this advisory is lifted.

WDRB joins the FPB Cable Line-Up

FPB cable customers can now find WDRB on channels 4 and 504 of the cable line-up. In December, FPB’s board approved an agreement to bring back the Louisville Fox affiliate for its top-rated local news coverage. The agreement allows FPB to retransmit WDRB news and syndicated programming into Frankfort.

“I have always considered Frankfort to be an essential part of the Louisville viewing area. Unfortunately, for legal reasons, WDRB has been unable to provide our television station to that market for the last several years. Now, thanks to the forward thinking folks at the Frankfort plant board we will once again be able to provide news, weather and sports from Kentucky’s largest television news organization to the great city of Frankfort,” said Bill Lamb, President of WDRB Media in Louisville.

FPB is finishing a project on Catfish Alley, which involves converting overhead feeder lines to underground lines. The power interruption is necessary to tie the new underground lines to the main underground feeder.
