FPB re-launches direct feed of MeTV on the same day WLEX drops it; MeTV now on Channel 27

MeTV can now be found on channel 27 in the FPB channel lineup. On September 1, WLEX, which is owned by E.W. Scripps Co., stopped distributing MeTV on their multicast channel, which is carried on FPB Cable channel 29, and replaced it with Grit TV.  As a result of our retransmission consent agreement with E.W. Sccripps Co, FPB is required to carry this new feed.  This change by Scripps precipitated a number of moves by FPB to continue to deliver to its customers the channels that they want to see.

Shortly after the change was made by WLEX on Thursday morning September 1st, FPB re-launched a direct feed of MeTV on channel 27.  That means MeTV will continue to be able to be viewed by every single FPB Cable customer, regardless of their programming package.

Grit TV, which had previously been carried on FPB channel 98 as a feed from WAVE, was removed because it now duplicated WLEX’s Grit TV on channel 29.  TBD TV, which had previously been available on channel 27, was moved to channel 98.  For FPB Cable customers who use QAM tuners to watch TV, TBD TV is available on channel 26.2.

GritTV to replace MeTV on FPB cable channel 29; FPB exploring options to continue offering MeTV in cable lineup

The E.W. Scripps Company, which owns WLEX-TV in Lexington, recently announced that it will no longer carry MeTV as a multicast feed and will replace it with GritTV on September 1, 2022. As part of FPB’s existing retransmission consent agreement with E.W. Scripps, FPB is required to carry WLEX’s multicast feed, regardless of the multicast’s network affiliation. Therefore, effective September 1, 2022, channel 29 on FPB Cable will be GritTV.

FPB is keenly aware that MeTV is a very popular station with many cable subscribers. FPB has engaged directly with Weigel Broadcasting, the company that owns MeTV, to come to an agreement for direct carriage of MeTV on FPB Cable.

There are some technical challenges to overcome, but FPB staff is working to ensure there is a direct feed of MeTV on FPB’s cable lineup. There may be a short period of time, starting on September 1, 2022, in which MeTV is not available on FPB Cable.

In spite of WLEX’s decision to drop MeTV, FPB is committed to continue to bring MeTV’s collection of classic TV programs to customers in Frankfort and Franklin County.
