FPB crews working continuously to restore power after severe weather

FPB crews are continuously working to restore power to all of our service areas. With this size event, restoration could take longer than expected. Multiple poles are down in our service area and crews are working as hard as they can to address the damage. It may be necessary to seek temporary shelter if you are without power for a length of time and rely on medical devices. A reminder that our priority is restoration of power first, then other nonessential services will follow. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work through the damage and restore power.

Damaging winds are often called “straight-line” winds to differentiate the damage they cause from tornado damage. Strong thunderstorm winds can come from a number of different processes. Damaging winds are classified as those exceeding 50-60 mph.

A few things to remember after a high wind event:

  • Avoid downed trees and do NOT go near downed power lines. Please report any down lines to FPB at 352-4372. Call times may be longer than normal.

  • Be careful when handling debris that may have blown into your yard.

  • If you need to use a portable generator, do not use it indoors even if the windows are open. Generators should be outside more than 20 feet away from your house as they produce carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide cannot be seen, heard, or smelled. Click here for more generator safety tips.

FPB water service line inventory underway; asking customers to assist with survey

FPB is conducting a water service line inventory to meet new requirements of the federal government. The Water Dept. needs customer assistance to complete the inventory of customer-owned lines.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently revised the 1991 Lead and Copper Rule. As part of the revision, FPB is currently conducting a water service line inventory of both the customer-owned service line and the utility-owned side of the service line. The inventory must be complete by October 2024.

FPB will conduct the inventory survey on public lines. In an effort to keep water rates affordable, FPB needs customers to assist completing the inventory on the customer side of the meter.

FPB is providing information to customers including an instructional video on its website to help customers determine what type of water service line is in their homes. Visit www.fpb.cc/servicelineinventory for information on how to conduct the inventory and submit the survey. For additional assistance, call 502-352-4433.

As inventory work progresses and provides valuable information, FPB will formulate a cost effective plan for complying with the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision and will work with each affected customer on an individual basis to ensure safeguards are in place to protect their health.
